| Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) |
| Q: How do I send a mail to the list? |
| A: Each list has its own address...and when you sign up, we share that address with you. |
| Q: I thought New Jersey Transit (LIRR, Metro-North, etc) already have this kind of service. How does this differ? |
| A: We have found our alerts to be more user-friendly, action-oriented, targetted, and in many cases they are more timely. |
| Q: Do I share my e-mail address with all the people on the list? |
A: No. We mask your address...so a message you send to the group will read as being "From" a generic Clever Commute address.
Just a reminder: only people on the list can mail to the list. |
| Q: If I join, will I get a lot of mail? |
| A: Generally, "No." Members only contact each other if there is a problem. You may go weeks without getting a message. |
| Q: Do I need to have a true mobile e-mail device such as a Blackberry or Treo? |
A: No...text messaging works well, too.
The messages are short in length and (knock-wood) also infrequent.
Here is a good resource which shows you how to send/receive SMS-style messages from your cell-phone.
To date, the two most popular are your_number@txt.att.net (for AT&T) and
your_number@vtext.com (for Verizon).
We also see (in roughly popularity order): @tmomail.net (T-Mobile), @
mms.att.net (a secondary AT&T approach)...followed by a handful each of @messaging.sprintpcs.com, @cingularme.com and @page.nextel.com
Note: Even if you send/receive alerts via your cell phone's address...we do ask that you share a traditional e-mail address with us so that we may send you full-length messages when needed.

| Q: What are the examples of events where it helps to be connected to this group? |
| A: In the last year alone, we've seen a transit strike, power outages, police activity, gas leaks, switch problems, disabled trains, trouble with the bridges, overturned trucks, and an unruly person who was able to close down the Port Authority with his suspicious behavior. |
| Q: My spam filter is preventing me from getting the alerts |
A: For each list you are on, add 2 entries to your address book (whitelist). Use this example from Montclair trains
- DoNotReply "at" CleverCommute.com (the address that alerts come from)
- owner-Montclair-Boonton-Line "at" clevercommute.com (additional entry)
| Q: How do I unsubscribe (leave) the list? |
A: Send a blank mail with the address you normally use for list messages...but prepend unsubscribe-
to the beginning. For example: unsubscribe-montclair-boonton-line "at" clevercommute.com |
| Q: I'm going away / on vacation and I don’t need to be contacted about alerts. What should I do? |
A: In the future, you'll be able to do that at www.listbox.com/member. For now, you can just send us a request and we'll take care of that for you |
