Clever Commute, the leading information service for suburban train commuters, has released version 2.0 of its premium service. The Inside Track is a suite of tools used by riders on LIRR, Metro North and NJ Transit.

The features vary by transit provider, but all share a theme of using technology and data to reduce stress and empower the commuter. The Inside Track builds on the viral success of the firm’s flagship e-mail based crowdsourced commuter alerting service. However, it also leverages new data sources and direct integration with the transit providers. New or improved features include:

  • Analytics & models to predict track numbers (crucial for riders at NY’s Penn Station)

  • Geo-location – See a real-time map of your train’s location

  • Algorithms which constantly monitor for signs of trouble…and automatically alert impacted commuters

  • Improved/automated cross-line (and cross-carrier) sharing of user-generated information

  • Strategic, proactive guidance regarding anything which impacts the commute
    (e.g., holiday get-away days, schedule changes, events/disruptions at/near the terminals)

  • Delivery via e-mail, Twitter, text message or straight to the commuter’s mobile device

  • New “user profile” feature allows time-of-day and day-of-week control over alerts. Even “snooze” alerts.
