Here at Clever Commute, we love it when we open our Facebook page…and see posts such as this one:
Clever Commute you saved me!! I arrived at Penn for the 6:49 to find a zoo. Everything on standby. But I had an inside track text in my inbox telling me that the 6:18 boarded a few minutes ago, and on which track. Voila, i arrived home on time rather than 30 minutes late!
We love getting mail like this…
Sometimes we ought to give credit where credit is due.
Conductor Josh, I appreciate you and The Inside Track. It’s a load off the shoulders and peace of mind knowing I’ve got the jump on the commuter traffic. It’s great knowing ahead of time which track my train may be arriving on, not to mention those crazy days when the boards at New York Penn aren’t telling us anything. I’ve got the The Inside Track! Thanks for creating such a great reliable service and at the “steal” of a price. You can’t beat it!!
We all want good commuter data…yet we only want to be notified once about a given issue. A few years ago, Clever Commute introduced the first version of our software which does a real-time check for duplicate messages. Our initial approach continues to serve us well…and is still in use by the free Clever Commute system.
However, users of our premium service – The Inside Track expect and deserve more.
What’s the difference?
Free version – checks for duplicates based solely on commuter line plus timestamp.
Example: All things being equal, if two commuters share messages on NJ Transit’s Northeast Corridor line within “n” minutes of each other (varies based on line), the first (earlier) message will go out as expected. The second message (“n” minutes later) is rejected …but our system e-mails the second sender a special code…which they can use to re-submit their message (in case his/her content truly was unique)
Inside Track version – functions similarly to the above with two key enhancements:
OLD: [NJTT-NEC] Signal problems in Newark
NEW: [NJTT-NEC][Duplicate?] Signal problems in Newark
You now have choices for how you manage this information
So by now you know that The Inside Track has a cool feature which lets you use our app to share info with fellow passengers. Yes…you even have the ability to manually designate a category for that message.
But there are time when the Clever Commute alerts will not be created that way (e.g., done via e-mail, or auto-generated by other systems)…and we have an amazing response to that: Let the technology do it!
That’s right: our servers scan each message and do their best to derive the appropriate category. That categorization is then used two ways:
Depending on your commuting style, you can choose which Clever Commute product you use.
Our premium service, The Inside Track, formats your message for quick and easy reading.
Times, stations, durations and issues/causes are highlighted and color-coded.
